Diagnosis

Proper and accurate diagnosis is essential before any treatment. Without such diagnosis there can be no treatment or, more correctly, no effective treatment. Only a private consultation with your physician, lasting certainly longer than five minutes, can help him or her discover where to look for the cause of the complaint and direct the appropriate diagnostic procedures. This will involve touching, listening to the heart and lungs, taking lood pressures . . . . all these conventional methods are still vital parts of the diagnosis procedure. They have not become superfluous just because insurance companies might like to reduce costs.

The sad reality of time pressures and "automation" of medical assistance has brought us now to two alternatives: Self protective medicine where the patient is sent for every imaginable test, or the simple and immediate prescription of steroids and antibiotics for everybody. The first is absurdly expensive and the second is useless poisoning.

At Clinica Praxis, we believe that careful and accurate diagnosis is the key to good medicine.

ECG, ecosonic scan and body-function tests are technical aids that can be useful in certain cases and do have them at hand at all times. But we will only make use of them where appropriate.

Blood tests and urine samples  are only useful if carried out immediately and when the many possibilities are sampled individually for each case. This is why we use our own laboratory and avoid stereotyped computerized printouts, since the doctors eye can see much more under the microscope by himself than even the most modern machines with their printouts of long numbers with many decimal places.  Allergies, diabetes, globulinaemia, thrombotic accidents, iron liver and infections are frequently diagnosed by the doctor's experienced glance, quicker than large auto analyzers at central labs can do.

And all this means better diagnosis, and thus a better experience for you, the patient.
